The DataHack4FI virtual competition is designed to bring together talented data scientists, developers, students and academics in seven African countries to compete over four weeks to build innovative technology and solutions that address financial exclusion.
Virtual participants will be provided with a unique dataset and problem statement relevant to their country, compiled by insight2impact and financial service providers in the country.
The challenge is to make use of this data as a starting point, and then seek alternate sources of data to create innovative solutions to ensure financial inclusion. These solutions can range from building new products or services for existing financial service providers to launching new ideas and enterprises. All solutions must be based on data.
With prizes ranging from over US$500 in cash to an expenses-paid trip to a conference in Rwanda, and potential incubation in Cape Town – this is an event you can’t miss!
How do you compete virtually?
The virtual hackathon will be held for four weeks from 28 March – 25 April 2017. There is no fee to participate, but all participants must be from one of the following countries: Kenya, Zambia, Mozambique, Senegal, Uganda, Ghana or Tanzania. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate participants from other countries at this time. Each team should have no more than five members.
